What is your bellyache trying to tell you?

Bellyaches are frequently ignored but can be a very important indicator of your overall
gut health. Most often your gut health is linked to your body’s reaction to stress. More
specifically, chronic stress.

Chronic stress is any steady stress that continues for a long period of time, which is
something our bodies just aren’t meant to handle. When your body is in a state of
chronic stress you primarily live in your sympathetic nervous system. This is where your
fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses are activated. Burnt out moms have been in a
state of chronic stress for a long time, sometimes even since childhood, which means
your brain and body have developed certain patterns and responses.

Taking care of your nervous system

If you are not taking care of your nervous system on a daily basis, or even throughout
the day, you will be living in that place of chronic stress. Your body’s energy will be
going towards survival mode operations and not proper digestion. So you might notice
digestive issues like leaky gut, constipation, or a negatively impacted microbiome. This
also means you’re not regulating your parasympathetic nervous system, the place of
rest and digest. Your body has to rest for digestion to work.

You have to be using relaxation techniques to get your parasympathetic nervous
system regulated and help your digestion function properly.

So many parents are in a state of chronic stress. This is why it’s so important to get
back to taking care of your digestion on a regular basis.

Embody relaxation. Get out of survival mode and into rest and digest mode.
